Adyan Foundation: Bridging Civil and Religious Dimensions for Women’s Rights

At Adyan Foundation, we believe in the power of dialogue to promote inclusive citizenship and advance women’s rights. Our upcoming round table sessions will bring together religious and civil judges, NGOs, and organizations dedicated to women’s rights, creating a unique platform for collaborative discussion.

Why Is This Important?

In today’s world, the intersection of civil and religious dimensions plays a crucial role in shaping societal norms and legal frameworks. Adyan stands out by facilitating conversations that honor both legal and spiritual perspectives, creating a space where diverse voices can collaborate.

Why These Topics Matter

  1. Discriminatory Marriage Rights

Marriage rights are often at the heart of gender equality issues. Women frequently encounter barriers that limit their rights within marriage and divorce, leading to significant social and economic repercussions. We aim to shed light on injustices faced by women and advocate for legal reforms that ensure fair treatment and equal rights within marital frameworks.

  1. Legislative Equality

The intersection of civil and religious laws significantly impacts the lives of women, particularly in matters of personal status. Many women navigate a complex landscape where conflicting laws can lead to discrimination. Through the roundtables, we will explore how these legal systems can coexist harmoniously, ensuring that women’s rights are upheld regardless of the legal context. We seek to challenge existing norms and advocate for a more equitable legislative environment.

  1. Institutional Integration

The collaboration between civil and religious courts is crucial for achieving justice and equality for women. Often, these systems operate independently, leading to inconsistencies and inequities in legal outcomes. The program will discuss institutional integration, aiming to identify pathways for these courts to work together, thereby enhancing access to justice for women and ensuring that their voices are heard and respected in all legal proceedings.

Driving Societal Change

Each of these topics reflects broader societal norms and cultural beliefs that can perpetuate discrimination against women. We aim to challenge entrenched attitudes and inspire a collective commitment to equality and justice. The conversations we seek to initiate in these sessions hold the potential to reshape perceptions and promote a culture of respect and inclusivity.

The WRL II program represents a vital step toward enhancing gender equality and human rights in Lebanon by addressing the legal barriers in personal status laws. Adyan Foundation is uniquely positioned at the intersection of civil and religious discourse, promoting dialogue among key stakeholders to drive meaningful change. For more information, individuals and organizations are encouraged to read the WRL report.

Held on the last Saturday of October each year, the Spiritual Solidarity Day brings people together to celebrate shared values and promote a spirit of solidarity. By organizing this gathering, Adyan aimed to address the pressing issues at hand and emphasize the importance of collective action and support for those affected by the conflict in Palestine.
