ABOUT

The Institute of Citizenship and Diversity Management is the academic branch of Adyan Foundation. The Institute focuses on the development of thought and skills through courses, research, conferences and publications. By that, it builds the capacities of youth, educators, academics, social and faith-based activists and trainers on Adyan’s key thematic areas, including but not limited to: Inclusive Citizenship, Freedom of Religion and Belief, Religious Social Responsibility and Education on Living Together.
The Institute also offers consultancy services and invests in Policy Making, namely in reform strategies of educational curricula.

MISSION STATEMENT

In a global context marked by an increase in religious & cultural diversity and a complex relation between religion & public life, the Institute for Citizenship and Diversity Management aims at:

  • Contributing to the production of critical and well-grounded resources for the management of religious diversity in the public sphere.
  • Contextualizing international concepts and developing an alternative narrative that resonates with the Middle-Eastern context in a language that is understood by all.
  • Building the capacities of youth, educators, academics, social and faith-based activities and trainers in promoting Inclusive Citizenship as well as inter-cultural & inter-religious cooperation locally, regionally and globally.

Research
& Learning Unit

The Research & Learning Unit at Adyan Foundation entails projects that delve deeper into theoretical and practical understandings of Adyan’s key terms and concepts through innovative methodologies and approaches. It is also responsible for the development of online and offline courses and curricula, with specialized experts, on topics such as Diversity & Living Together, Freedom of Religion and Belief, Inclusive Citizenship, Religious Social Responsibility, Communication and Dialogue as well as Public Life Values for both internal and external audiences, from Lebanon, the MENA region and the world. It also provides customized training on managing cultural and religious diversity in the workplace for different organizations and companies.

EDUCATION UNIT

The Education Unit at Adyan Foundation entails formal and non-formal schools’ programs, develops curriculum and guidebooks with specialized experts on topics such as active and inclusive citizenship, cultural and religious diversity and Media Literacy. The Unit works integrally with the Research and Learning team. Throughout its programs and training of educators, it aims to foster social cohesion and create a culture of responsible citizenship, through an intercommunal network of educators and young social change makers. The unit strengthens sustainable peace in Lebanon through narratives of solidarity and human dignity promoted by young people in their daily lives, via community service projects and social media, and increased positive discourse on pluralism and coexistence in Lebanon and globally.
