Seeds of Change:

Islam's Journey to Transforming Inheritance in Upper Egypt

In the heartland of Egypt, a region known as Asyout, As-Said, Islam Mayez embarked on a transformative mission to break the silence surrounding the “taboo” subject of inheritance. With unwavering determination, he orchestrated a series of seven enlightening online training sessions, aimed at both men and women, to shed light on the true laws of inheritance. His ultimate goal was to rectify the injustices and growing inequality that plagued the lives of both Christians and Muslims in As-Said.

As the online sessions reached a staggering 250 participants, Islam’s vision grew bolder. He realized that true change required a tangible presence in the local communities. Thus, he assembled a diverse group of journalists, artists, and civil activists, whom he personally trained over a two-day period. Together, they delved into the art of advocacy, harnessing the power of tools such as caricature, storytelling, and the development of small-scale initiatives. Islam aimed to equip his allies with the skills necessary to ignite awareness on the pressing issue of inheritance.

The impact of Islam’s initiative was profound. Forty-four individuals emerged from the offline activities, filled with newfound confidence to tackle the inheritance conundrum within their respective domains. United by a shared purpose, they formed a formidable network, empowered to instigate change on a local scale.

News of this grassroots movement reverberated through various media channels, amplifying its reach and inspiring others in the process.
