ABOUT THE PROJECT

As part of its in-depth work in promoting community resilience, Adyan Foundation, through its Community Engagement Department, has taken a role in a consortium – led by the British Council – to implement the Strengthening Resilience – MENA II (SR2) programme in Lebanon, in partnership with the National Unit for Preventing Violent Extremism at the presidency of the Council of Ministers. The programme aims to build young people’s resilience – their ability to survive and thrive whatever pressures and hazards they confront. Funded by the European Union, the programme began as a pilot in 2015 and its current phase will continue until January 2021. Currently, it is under implementation in Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia and Jordan.

In the Lebanese context, the programme involves building the individual, collective and community resilience and sense of citizenship of youth, engaging them in a process of community development in order to strengthen communities against extremist narratives and reduce the appeal of violent extremist groups.
