Adyan’s 11th Spiritual Solidarity Award presented to Jean Vanier & the L’Arche Communities
This year, the eleventh Spiritual Solidarity Award was presented to Jean Vanier, Founder of L’Arche Communities which are dedicated to the creation and growth of homes, programs, and support networks for people with disabilities.
The Board members of Adyan Foundation decided to award the eleventh Spiritual Solidarity Award to Vanier during their meeting on the 6th of September 2018. Adyan’s President, Father Fadi Daou and the Director of Citizenship and Diversity Management, Dr. Nayla Tabbara presented the award to Vanier on the 6th of October, 2018, in the French town of Trosly.
In the official letter accompanying the prize, Father Daou said: « your testimony as well as that of the L’Arche Communities, throughout the world and throughout diverse religions and cultures, shows that the values of diversity, solidarity and human dignity are truly a path of communion and peace. L’Arche has shown the world how human weakness and handicap can carry a new meaning for what it is to be human. We are grateful to you for having accepted to receive this award that strengthens the link between our two communities, and makes of you, Jean, an honorary member of Adyan ».
In his speech, Vanier said that the relationship between L’Arche and Adyan means a lot to him, and selecting him to get the Spiritual Solidarity Award left a great impact in his heart. He added that he and all L’Arche groups have a great desire to open up to the other “so we help them and they help us to discover that each one of us is a very beautiful human being.”
The Spiritual Solidarity Award is an annual award given by Adyan Foundation. It aims to encourage and honor those who devote themselves and work to develop and promote solidarity and unity among citizens of different faiths, especially in the contexts of tension and violence.
